California CDL practice tests

California keeps CDL testing entirely in house rather than licensing private examiners: the skills test can only be booked by appointment at a dedicated Commercial Driving Test Office, a narrower set of locations than the state's regular DMV field offices used for the knowledge test.

The written exams themselves are federal. California decides the permit rules, the fees and who runs the skills test, but the knowledge you are tested on comes from 49 CFR Part 383 and is the same in every state, which is why the 145 questions here work wherever you apply.
