Your missed questions

What the process looks like
- Anyone under 17 who has never held an Idaho license must complete an approved driver training course and the state's Graduated Driver's License program before testing for a full Class D license.
- The GDL supervised period runs a minimum of six violation-free months and requires at least 50 hours of practice driving, ten of them after dark, with a licensed adult 21 or older in the front seat.
- Any traffic conviction during the supervised period cancels the permit outright, and the six-month clock restarts from zero on a newly issued one.
- Drivers under 17 face escalating GDL penalties for repeat moving violations: a warning letter on the first conviction, a 30-day suspension on the second, and 60 days on the third.
The Class D knowledge test carries its own $5 fee, separate from the instruction permit and skills test charges, and all fees are non-refundable.
A failed knowledge test means a mandatory three-day wait before retesting, and the $5 test fee has to be paid again.
