Wyoming runs its written test on an automated testing system at WYDOT exam stations in English only, with an interpreter allowed for non commercial written tests and an oral version read out through a phone system for applicants who struggle to read, so long as the oral request is made before the test starts. The practice questions themselves teach Wyoming law either way. Confirm the format with Wyoming Department of Transportation, Driver Services Program before your appointment.

Your missed questions

What the process looks like
- A Wyoming instruction permit can be issued from age 15. The holder must be accompanied by someone at least 18 years old who holds a valid license for the class of vehicle being driven and who is sitting in the seat beside the driver.
- At 16, a teen who has held an instruction permit and completed at least 50 hours of practice driving, including at least 10 hours of night driving, can apply for an intermediate permit. A parent or guardian has to certify the practice hours and sign the minor's release.
- The driver manual also asks intermediate applicants to pass a vision screening and a driving skills test, and the skills test can be waived for anyone who finishes an approved driver education course.
- Intermediate permit holders may not drive between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. unless an adult over 18 is with them or they carry a signed exception form for work, school, a religious or youth activity, or a medical need. They may also carry no more than one passenger under 18 who is not immediate family. Breaking either rule suspends the permit for 30 days.
- The intermediate license expires 30 days after the holder's 17th birthday. Full driving privileges can come earlier, at 16 and a half, for a holder whose intermediate license is at least six months old and who has completed an approved driver education course.
There is no separate charge for sitting the written test. It is part of applying, and the application fee covers it. A Wyoming instruction permit costs $40 and an original license costs $40, with a $5 technology fee added to every class of license.
You may take the same written test twice in one day. If both attempts fail, the next try waits for a later day, and missing 13 or more questions pushes the wait out to three days.

How many questions are on the Wyoming DMV knowledge test?
WYDOT does not publish a number. Its testing page, its driver licensing FAQ and the Wyoming Class C driver manual all describe what the written test covers without giving a count. Driver training sites commonly quote 25 questions, which is the format this page's practice test uses, but it is not an official figure. The one loose clue in the manual is that anyone who misses 13 or more questions waits three days to retest, so the real exam is comfortably longer than 13 questions.
What score do I need to pass the Wyoming permit test?
80 percent, and this one is official. WYDOT states on its own driver services pages that the written test has to be passed with a minimum score of 80 percent before you can move on to the driving skills test. Since WYDOT does not publish a question count, the 20 of 25 shown here is that 80 percent rule applied to the commonly quoted length.
What does the Wyoming written test actually cover?
Three things, according to the driver manual: picking out traffic signs by shape, color or symbol; reading signals and pavement markings; and multiple choice questions on traffic law, safety, crash prevention and vehicle equipment. Every question comes from the manual.
Where do I take the Wyoming knowledge test, and is there a fee just for testing?
You sit the written test in person at a WYDOT exam station on the automated testing system, as part of applying for a permit or license. There is no separate testing fee beyond the application fee, and if you are uncomfortable with computers an examiner can give you a paper test instead.
