Georgia DDS never produces a single combined knowledge test score, so a strong overall performance can still end in a failure. The exam is two separate 20 question papers, Road Signs and Road Rules, and each one is graded on its own with a minimum of 15 correct out of 20, which is 75 percent. A perfect 20 on Road Rules does not rescue a 14 on Road Signs. There is no combined total to fall back on and no compensation between the halves, so the road signs chapter is not a topic to skim, it is a section you have to clear. The 40 questions and 30 correct recorded here are a composite total used only for comparison against other states, not a threshold DDS applies. Retakes run on their own schedule: wait one day after a first failure, seven days after a second, and every retest needs a new appointment and the permit fee again, taken as cash or card only, with no checks, money orders or refunds.

What the process looks like.
The knowledge test is written from the Official Code of Georgia Annotated Title 40, Motor Vehicles and Traffic. Our questions teach those same rules and cite the section behind each answer, so what you learn holds up on test day and on the road afterwards.
Applicants must be at least 15 years old to apply for a Class D learner's permit, and must hold it for 12 months and one day before applying for a license.
Teens need 40 hours of supervised driving, including 6 hours at night, certified by a parent, guardian, or driving instructor.
The Road Rules and Road Signs sections of the knowledge exam are scored separately, and both must reach 15 out of 20 correct for the applicant to pass overall.
A minimum of 30 hours of driver education classroom instruction, taken in person or online, is also required before licensing.
The learner's permit fee covers the knowledge exam, and DDS takes cash or a credit or debit card only, with no checks, money orders, or refunds.
After a first failed attempt, wait one day before retesting. After a second failure, wait seven days. Every retest needs an appointment and payment of the permit fee again.

How many questions are on the Georgia permit test?
