Oregon written test: 28 of 35, online tries rationed

The Oregon Driver Manual sets the knowledge test at 35 multiple choice questions and requires 28 correct, which is 80 percent. That is a margin of exactly seven wrong answers. Oregon DMV lists three ways to sit it: online through DMV2U, at a DMV office, or with one of the approved third party testers the manual names for Class C knowledge testing. Passing is only one part of the process for a teenager, because a provisional license at 16 or 17 also takes 100 hours of supervised driving experience, or 50 hours where an approved driver education course has been taken and passed.

Oregon caps the at home route twice over. You may test online two times in a 24 hour period and four times in total, after which the remaining attempts have to be made at a DMV office. In an office there is no fixed cooldown at all: the manual says you may test again the same day, depending on office testing resource availability. So an applicant who keeps failing online eventually loses the convenience rather than the ability to test, while one who fails in a busy office may be waiting on that office's capacity rather than on a rule. Either way the paper is the same 35 questions with 28 correct to pass.
