North Dakota's skills test waiver from a rider safety course has a shelf life. It only counts if the course was finished within the past six years, so a long-lapsed completion card sends a returning rider back to the on-cycle test.

Honest note: North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) does not publish the motorcycle test format anywhere we could confirm, so the 25 question count and pass mark of 20 are the best available figures rather than verified facts. The riding knowledge below is the same either way. Confirm the format with the agency before your appointment.
The rider course rule. The on-cycle skills test can be waived by presenting a completion card from a director-approved motorcycle safety course finished within the previous six years, though the written knowledge test is still required NDDOT Motorcycle Operator Manual, checked 2026-08-28.
