South Carolina motorcycle permit test
South Carolina locks riders out after three failed skills tests on a permit: at that point the only way back in is completing an SCDMV-authorized motorcycle safety course and passing its built-in skills test, since the branch itself will no longer retest that permit.

Honest note: South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) does not publish the motorcycle test format anywhere we could confirm, so the 30 question count and pass mark of 24 are the best available figures rather than verified facts. The riding knowledge below is the same either way. Confirm the format with the agency before your appointment.
The rider course rule. SCDMV accepts skills test certification from an SCDMV-approved one-stop motorcycle training and testing program in place of its own road test; this does not waive the written knowledge test, which is still required to obtain the beginner's permit SCDMV, checked 2026-08-28.
