Flooding Area sign
This stretch of road is known to flood in heavy rain. Slow down in wet weather and be ready to turn back if water is standing on the road.
Posted near low lying dips, floodplains and bridges over creeks that are known to overtop their banks during storms.
How to recognise it
This sign is a diamond stood on its point in yellow, the warning colour. Yellow diamonds telling you what the road is about to do. They are advisory rather than mandatory, but ignoring them is how people end up in ditches and how examiners end up failing you.
What the test wants you to know
The rule being tested is almost never about the sign itself, it is about what to do at standing water: turn around rather than guess the depth, since a surprising amount of water can float or stall a car and moving water is more dangerous than it looks. Driving through standing water on the assumption the road underneath is intact is the wrong answer every time.
Practise it
Reading about a sign is not the same as recognising it in half a second with an examiner watching. Every state road signs test on this site shows the sign and asks you to name it, then shows four faces and asks you to pick the right one.
