Merging onto a freeway from an on ramp

Q: You are on the acceleration lane of an on ramp and car B is in the right hand lane of the freeway. Who yields?

You do, and you use the ramp to match the speed of traffic first. Traffic entering a freeway yields to traffic already on it, and uses the acceleration lane to reach traffic speed before merging. The acceleration lane exists so you can arrive at the same speed as the traffic you are joining. Merging slowly forces everyone behind to brake, which is how ramp collisions start.
