Grounded in North Carolina's own code

The 12 questions written for North Carolina.

These 12 split into 5 on rules of the road, 5 on safety and impairment and 2 on right of way, and each one names the rule it tests, so you learn the N.C.G.S. Ch. 20 section rather than just the answer. The rest of the bank is the shared national core and the sign artwork every state uses. Here is what North Carolina asks from its own code, and where each question comes from.

How NCDMV scores it

20 of 25 correct, 5 misses allowed.

The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles knowledge test is 25 questions and you pass at 20, which is 80% to pass; NCDMV publishes no question count, so 5 wrong answers is the margin before it ends. At least 9 of the 12 road sign questions must be correct whatever your total. A passing score with too many sign misses is still a fail. The exam simulator draws that exact count and pass mark and scores it the way NCDMV does.
